Frequently Asked Questions
What is the purpose of this site?
MJ Illustrated is a personal creative project focused on celebrating Michael Jackson through original artwork. There are already countless real photos of Michael, so the aim here isn’t to recreate reality, but to explore imaginative, artistic interpretations that feel worthy of printing, framing, and living with. It’s about appreciation, storytelling, and celebrating his artistry in a new visual way.
Do you use AI to create the artwork?
Yes, AI is part of the process, but it’s only a tool. Every image starts with a clear idea and goes through multiple rounds of refinement. I shape expressions, clothing, poses, and the overall mood, then edit nearly every piece in Photoshop, often combining elements from multiple outputs. These aren’t one-click results. They take time and care.
How long does it take to create an image?
Typically around 30 to 45 minutes. That includes refining the concept and prompt, dialing in Michael’s appearance, fine-tuning clothing and details, shaping the scene, and making sure the artistic style feels just right.
Will you create realistic, lifelike images of Michael?
No. While it’s technically possible, I deliberately avoid hyper-realistic images that could be mistaken for real photos. Michael was photographed extensively throughout his life, and creating something artificial that could mislead fans wouldn’t feel respectful to him or to the people who love him. The goal is artistic interpretation, not deception.
Why use AI at all?
I’ve had ideas for artwork of Michael for years but never had the traditional drawing skills to bring them to life. AI made that possible. Like any creative tool, what matters is how it’s used. For me, it’s a way to express long-held ideas and explore creativity, not to replace traditional artists.
How do you feel about traditional artists?
I have deep respect for traditional artists and their craft. This project isn’t about replacing anyone. It’s simply my own way of creating and expressing ideas using modern tools.
Are you transparent about your process?
Yes. I’ve been open about how the artwork is created since the beginning, including on this site, and it’s the pinned post on my X feed. Transparency matters to me.
What’s the intention behind the artwork?
Everything is created from a place of genuine appreciation and respect for Michael. The goal is to celebrate his legacy, spark imagination, and share something meaningful with others. I hope that care, joy, and respect behind each piece come through.
How would you describe this kind of art?
It’s creative work, just with a different kind of brush.
